A day in the life of Roman
The day for most romans often began with a light breakfast. Sometimes meat, fish, fruit and other items might have been served.
The men and boys wore togas and tunics, women and girls also wore tunics that went right down to their ankles.
Many girls stayed at home with their mother to take care of the house whilst the men went off to work and the boys went to school. Whilst in school the boys learnt maths which was very difficult because it consisted of only 6 letters used to make all the numbers. They also learnt things to help them in everyday life, such as history, weights and measurements, philosophy and public speaking.
The men worked as farmers, bakers, builders, selling and trading goods and making clothes. Phew became doctor’s lawyers, writers and teachers.
After a day of work and school the men and boys would go down the local bathes to socialize and relax. After spending some time their, they would go home and eat the biggest meal of the day. If they were hosting a dinner party the meal would normally have 6-7 courses. After dinner families were able to attend plays and events, although some people chose to participate in sports.
